PhD Opportunity: an experimental platform to support translation of in silico pulsewave analysis technologies to the clinic

Closing date

The project will develop an in vitro experimental analogue of vasospasm to provide a benchmark for clinical measurements and numerical simulations to test the hypothesis that measurement of vascular distensibility can characterize the presence and progression of cerebral vasospasm at locations remote from the measurement site. This will involve experimental techniques including pressure measurement with clinical and non-contact optical methods and 3D-printing to replicate localised vessel narrowing.

Early Stage Researcher (ESR5): Modelling spinal surgical procedures

Closing date

This ESR will specialise in in silico modelling of the spine. The project will give the ESR the opportunity to acquire high skills in computational modelling, in particular in the modelling of the many different tissues that compose the spine. The ESR will acquire knowledge of the multi-scale anatomy and biomechanics of the spine, and the different orthopaedic interventions available (interspinous implant concepts). In addition, the ESR will get a very complete experience in in vitro testing, and integration of experimental and numerical methods.
