Salary: Grade 7, £31,302 – £39,609 per annum.
The University of Sheffield’s Department of Computer Science welcomes applications for a two-year Research Associate position in Machine Learning for Medical Image Analysis, under the project “Developing a Machine Learning Tool to Improve Prognostic and Treatment Response Assessment on Cardiac MRI Data” funded under “Innovator Awards: Digital Technologies” by the Wellcome Trust. You will work under joint supervision of Dr Haiping Lu, a leading scholar in tensor-based machine learning, and Dr Andrew Swift, a consultant radiologist, Wellcome Trust Fellow and expert in imaging of pulmonary vascular disease.
You will also collaborate with other team members on this project, including a Clinical Fellow and a Research Software Engineer.
You will develop a machine learning software tool on our large-scale cardiac MRI data from pulmonary hypertension patients to improve prognosis and treatment response assessment, and build a prototype ready for clinical trial. This project aims to revolutionise disease assessment and improve treatment delivery and patient care.
You will hold a PhD degree (or be close to completion) in a relevant field of study such as computer science, engineering, mathematics/statistics (or have equivalent experience) with track record in medical image analysis and machine learning, excellent programming skills and solid math background.
