An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join our MultiSim project.

MultiSim is a five-year programme that aims to create a new modelling framework for the human musculoskeletal system. The £6.7M Frontier Engineering grant from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) – awarded to the world leading and innovative Insigneo Institute – will improve treatments for diseases of the musculoskeletal system.

The post holder will work towards developing dynamic multi-scale bone remodelling units in the tibia responding to biomechanical simulations under physiological and pathological conditions. A combined agent-based model (ABM) and finite element (FE) framework will be utilised to simulate signalling networks, including that of the parathyroid hormone (PTH) and monitor their influence on cell-cell interaction and emergent behaviour. The models will be integrated into a hypermodelling framework that consists of several sub-models at various scales (cell, tissue, organ, body) so that an overall musuloskeletal model can be generated.

The ideal candidate will:

  • hold a PhD in the Life Sciences, Engineering, Physics or related disciplines
  • be familiar with modelling of cells and the musculoskeletal system.

The post is full time for one year and will report to Dr Aban Shuaib and Dr Enrico Dall’Ara.
