The sixth General Assembly of the Insigneo Institute will be held on Wednesday 11 October 2017, from 12:00 – 14:00 in workroom 4, 38 Mappin Street, a buffet lunch will be provided.  This event provides an opportunity to:

  • network within the Institute,
  • receive an annual internal update,
  • influence future activity and the strategic direction of the Institute.

This year the event will be more informal, providing a focus for discussion between members and the Insigneo Directors and administrative/support staff.

Every member is invited to attend, as well as anyone from the University of Sheffield or the Sheffield Teaching Hospital who is interested

Details of specific opportunities to discuss membership benefits and the strategic activity of Insigneo are provided below.

Insigneo services and infrastructure
Dr. Andrew Narracott (Director of Operations) and Dr. Will Furnass (Research Software Engineer) will be available to highlight central resources available to support Insigneo members, including; access to High Performance Computing resources, best practice in software development and sustainability, technical training/support for Insigneo staff and students, Data Management procedures and infrastructure (e.g. eLab notebooks).

Clinical translation of in silico research
Dr. Paul Morris (Director of Translation) and Dr Rebecca Gosling (Deputy Director of Translation) will be available to discuss opportunities and issues surrounding translational in silico research within Insigneo and between Sheffield Teaching Hospital and the University of Sheffield. In particular, they will be able to discuss how Insigneo enables effective collaboration between clinicians and engineers.

Post-award support and communications
Mrs Lesley Statham (Post-Award Support) and Mrs Sarah Hollely (Marketing and Communications Officer) will be available to discuss the services they provide in their respective areas to all Insigneo members.  Lesley currently manages several large grants, in collaboration with the department of the principal investigators; she also coordinates all secretarial services, the membership database and space planning.  Sarah curates the Insigneo web site, the Insigneo newsletter, and all our presence on social networks.  She is currently developing a new internal communication model to facilitate collaboration between members of Insigneo.

Research application support and commercialisation
Prof. Damien Lacroix (Director of Research) and Dr. Keith McCormack (Business Development Manager) will be available to discuss the support available to Insigneo members in terms of research, including: grant preparation, industrial links, commercialisation of grant outputs, REF guidance.

Training programmes
Dr. Gwendolen Reilly (Director of Training) and members of the training team will be available to discuss plans for an INSIGNEO doctoral training framework and potential funding opportunities such as DTCs, our new MSc in computational medicine and our specialist undergraduate modules in Biomechanics and how these interact with the Faculty of Engineering programmes
