Introduction to machine learning: a one day course
Friday, 15 February, 2019
Machine learning tools are rapidly being developed and implemented within clinical software and are likely to impact on patient care in many different areas in the near future. Healthcare staff need to be equipped with the necessary knowledge to understand how such tools work in order that that they can be implemented safely, for maximum benefit to the health service.
This one day course aims to provide attendees with a basic understanding of machine learning theories. In particular, attendees will be equipped with an appreciation of the relative advantages and disadvantages of different machine learning algorithms and the potential pitfalls associated with training, validating and implementing these tools. Examples of machine learning applications relevant to medical physics, and possible strategies for developing them will also be discussed.
