Insigneo actively develops capability across a range of computing hardware infrastructures. The computing facilities workgroup focuss on delivering expertise in High Performance Computing (HPC) – providing Insigneo members with access to additional resources as part of the Sheffield Iceberg Facility and regional N8 HPC facility.
The workgroup provide advice and support with specification of computational requirements for research funding applications and acts as a gateway for collaborative use of computational hardware. Close links exist between hardware infrastructure and software development, with members of both workgroups also contributing to the development of data management technologies. The workgroup is also active in the development of training activities, to promote best practice in use of hardware resources and to provide appropriate support for junior researchers it does so in collaboration with the Insigneo education & training activity strands.
