Salary: Grade 7 £30,175– £38,183 per annum
An excellent research opportunity has arisen within the integrated musculoskeletal biomechanics (IMSB) group of the INSIGNEO Institute for in silico Medicine and to contribute to the Multisim Research project. The research forms part of a programme to create a new modelling framework for the human musculoskeletal system. The engineering-based model of an individual patient’s musculoskeletal makeup will be able to reduce soaring treatment costs for chronic bone disorders, by predicting disease development and enabling better treatment. It will simultaneously capture processes at a cellular scale right up to the whole body.
The Postdoctoral Research Associate will contribute to develop methods for the generation of individualised multiscale biomechanical models of the musculoskeletal system from imaging and motion analysis data, using data form both in vivo and ex-vivo experiments. Such models are used to investigate the biomechanical and mechanobiological determinants of various diseases (e.g. osteoporotic fracture, osteoarthritis, juvenile idiopathic arthritis, etc.) in both adults and children. They will also support the project team during the preparation of the “Modelathon 2017” (http://multisim-insigneo.org/modelathon/) and the participants during the days of the event.
The candidate will be expected to work independently and with minimal supervision and to contribute to the activity of the research group with the supervision of junior team members.
The ideal candidate will:
- hold a relevant post graduate qualification (or have equivalent experience)
- have a strong background in the modelling of complex systems.
The post is full time and available for twelve months. The post-holder will report to Dr Pinaki Bhattacharya and Prof. Marco Viceconti, Department of Mechanical Engineering, The University of Sheffield.
